Laser Hair Removal FAQ

Here are some answers to Frequently Asked Questions.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

By using a specialized diode laser, we are able to specifically target the hair’s follicle and damage it. Specifically, it breaks up a pigment called melanin. This disrupts the hair’s ability to grow and regenerate. Each hair is in a different growth stage, even if you don’t shave or wax. The treatment is repeated a few times to treat the hair that was not yet mature.

How Many Treatments Does Hair Removal Take?

Darker, courser hair, like the bikini area, typically requires less treatments than finer hair found on the face or armpit. The lower end would be around 5 treatments, and fine hair could take up to 10. We suggest scheduling a consultation so we can take a look and give you a good idea of what to expect.

Is Hair Removal Painful?

It can be for some, but Vanish, Inc. utilizes a specially designed laser with a cooling head to help mitigate the pain. A fluffy mustache may take 1 minute, while both your legs will take 25-30 minutes.

Do I Need To Do Anything Before My Treatment?

Avoiding sun exposure for a few weeks prior to your treatment will help make your treatments more effective. Also, do not pluck or wax for 4 weeks prior to your treatment as it removes the hair follicle that we are targeting. Shave (or dermaplane) the area the day before your treatment.

What Should I Avoid After My Treatment?

Avoid sun exposure for at least 7 days after your treatment. Use at least an spf 30 sunscreen. If you develop a blister, never pop it as it will resolve completely on it’s own. Do not treat yourself to any additional laser treatments or chemical peels for 2 weeks.

How Does This Compare With IPL Or Electrolysis?

Diode lasers typically require fewer treatments than IPL or a q-switch laser. In addition, it is safe for all skin types. Electrolysis sessions treat each hair, one at a time, taking significantly longer to perform. Because of this, multiple electrolysis visits may be needed to treat larger areas. In contrast, diode lasers can quickly treat large areas, completing it in a single session. One of the best benefits is that our laser hair removal treatments are completely painless.
